Doll Making: I have spent all last night and today, thinking about a Sam doll. So now, here is my plan. I am going to make two Sam dolls.
One will be a little sculptured figurine and the second will be a soft, larger, cloth Sam. I think the cloth doll could be fun for the kids to handle after hearing the story.
I have made many dolls and sculpted figures, but Sam will be very different. In the past I would make them and they would develop into a character as I worked on them. A Sam doll will be very different in that ….my creation will have to look like my character. That may be a bit more difficult, but I think I am up to the task.
Last night after a wonderful dinner my husband prepared, we sat in front of the fireplace to relax and chat and as we did my mind kept turning to doll making. although it was a very romantic setting…my mind was elsewhere and After a few minutes I was up and heading for my sewing/craft room. Wire, I needed some wire …but did I have any left? I had not used any for a while now and with all my supplies it is sometimes difficult to keep track of what get used up. It didn’t take long before …aha…I found it. I brought it back to my cozy seat in front of the fire and began to get to work. To work on what?? you may say??? After about half an hourI was done and now I had blackened fingers from working with the wire. Getting the proportions correct, is going to be a challenge.
Well, If you look below you will find the beginnings of my first doll. Doesn’t look like much right now…but I can assure you, it will all come together…and hopefully resemble Sam. So keep checking in here to watch the transformation take place.

Glad you liked it…how did you find it helpful?
You must be a pharmacist or something like that…at least your name makes one think so? Have a good day.

How nice of you to do that. One of the first things my friend Eleanor asked, after I went to a book launching of her book..Pajama Tears…was…is there going to be a Sam Doll? What a great idea, was my reaction. So now there will be a little statue of Sam and then I will make a big, cloth doll of him. It is givng me something to do as I wait between publishing phases. Plus, it is a lot of fun. Lots of snow here today…it is so pretty outside.

Ironic Sally, I took out a box of Mom’s dolls this morning, and gave one away to a mother to give her young daughter. Can’t wait to see how your “Sam doll” evolves …
