Winter would not feel so cold if our yards could look like this….

even with the snow all around..

.this sure would be nice to see in the morning.

Here are some other beautiful flowers to cheer you up during this long cold winter some of us have been going through.

Look very carefully at them and you will find they are made up f painted bodies.  How cool is that???

Stay warm.

heartbeat

How many heartbeats does one person have in a lifetime??

An old friend from years past got me thinking about this…heartbeats…how many have I used and how many do I have left…and how exactly will I spend them?

So…let’s say I live to be 75 (average life expectancy) …that gives me 15 more years of heartbeats at a rate 72  of beats a minute…to use…I am not going to bore you with the math.

Hmmm….it seems I have used up a good percentage of MY available heartbeats…so I had better not waste what may be remaining.

I also got wondering…how did  I spent all those past heartbeats ?

AND  SO….

Some years ago I spend numerous heartbeats … writing children’s stories/poems.  Last week when cleaning out a space in my home, I found a binder with all the creations I had long since forgotten about. In thinking about heartbeats…I thought I would share some of them here on this blog …I suppose in doing this…

This is a way of sharing my present and past heartbeats with all of you.??

Sam…Don’t

My mom will always tell me

“No, no, you shouldn’t, don’t

I find that quite confusing

Cause normally I won’t

But when she says “don’t do that !!!”

Whatever that might be

She makes me think about it

I get confused…you see???

Stock Photo #1569R-9034345, Boy pouting at kitchen table, mother shaking her finger

When mom says please don’t do that

the first thing that I think

I really want to try that

Before I can even blink

Like when she says “don’t eat that”

before she has a clue

that thing if right inside my mouth

And I begin to chew

Boy Eating : little boy eating cookies on white background isolated

When in the tub… mom always says

“Don’t splash and please no bubbles”

But splashing makes the bath such fun

Which always causes trouble

Why does mom say “Don’t touch that” ??

Cause it makes me want to try

And so I touch it quickly

And then she wonders why??

On days when it is rainy

with big  puddles on my street

Why does she yell  “No splashing Sam”

Then… I can’t control my feet

And when I crawl in bed at night

Mom says  ” Don’t suck your thumb”

But that just makes me want to

Isn’t that just  dumb?

Mom gives me straws to drink my milk

Then says “No blowing bubbles”

If she would just not say such things

I’d cause her fewer troubles

My mother always tells me

She wants me to be good

If she didn’t give such fun ideas

I’d behave…I know I could.

We have all hear people talking about ….waiting for their ship to come in…and maybe at times…we have wished that ours would come in as well.

Let’s think about it…a ship… is a large boat . ..that I for one… have never seen resting on a shore.

You may be thinking…but cruise ships come in to shore?  right?….Not really.  They come in to docks..(.not the shore)…. docks that have been specially built for them.

So I suppose that means …if you sit on shore and wait for it…you might be sitting there a very long time…unless there is a natural disaster that forces it to crash on the shore…

                                         thCA8U0Q15

thCAHURU6Z

Your ship  might come in but it will be damaged and broken …not exactly what you had in mind.

thCA0X8KDK

So I suppose.. if your ship doesn’t come in… swimming out to it would be in order…..Don’t know how to swim??…and the thought of learning to is frightening? ….you may have to just start building that long dock.

thCA1L42YI

So… if sitting and watching…doesn’t bring in your ship….and you can’t swim or build…

you might have to reconsider the ship idea…

and settle for something a little smaller.

Do you think you are unique??…

c646539332609418206376114b79bd6f     Do I think I am unique??? ……If  all of us  are  unique…..does that mean that none of us really are?????

Or….maybe we are equally unique….and so…differently the same???  And….If we are just like everyone else….is anyone really unique at all???

Just something to think ……..

So next time you start to feel like you are special…or unique…remember….so is everyone else.

a96735_heligan-head     So….here we all are….looking forward to another year….  !!!      Will it be full of things that never were????

For me….for the past 3 years….I have  made and kept a New Year’s resolution… I know that most people say….Bah, Humbug….to any kind of resolutions…We have all made them and tried our best to keep them with little or no success…so why bother???….Well…I have come up with a way  to be able to make and keep a resolution….easily……The trick is to decide on a change that adds to your life….not one that causes stress

For example….one year I vowed to buy only vine ripened tomatoes when available….nothing less….then there was the NOT turning on the radio in the car unless driving more than 16 kms….how nice and quiet my rides were….and last year I decided to ….around the first of each month…to go clothes shopping for an item or two….to help update my shabby wardrobe.   Now you must admit…..very easy resolutions to make….and follow through on.  Not a bit of stress involved ….and the feeling of accomplishment at the end of each year.  And these resolutions I have continued to carrry on till the present!!!!!

So….now comes the difficult part….coming up with a new resolution for 2013…..but thanks to some friends of mine….on New Year/s eve….we did some brainstorming on possible ideas for resolutions…..such as….

  • Once a month…..do a first….maybe trying a new food….or…buying a new kind of soap or shampoo ….or….watching a new tv show…or…how about just brushing your teeth with your other hand…or maybe going into a store you have never visited ….pay for a stranger’s coffee …etc. etc…!!!
  • Once a month….Taking one item out of my freezer downstairs and using it….(I keep putting items in but never take them out) so it might be an adventure for me

I am feeling that the freezer idea will be it for me in 2013 ….I think  once a month ….would be a good way to go this year…..Now I am a bit excited to find out what is lurking in that freezer downstairs. ….I am just going to have to come up with a date to start…..hmmmm….I suppose if I do it sometime during the first week of each month….will be it…..Hmmmm…although the thought of firsts really intrigues me …..could I maybe….do both…????

Could  this is be a gentle way to step out????

Have a look …..a very careful look.!!!!

Is it true that we often see …only what we WANT to see??

a98379_body-painting-group_7-plant

Is this a leaf….a bug….an elephant?????…..Look again…it is really  a person standing on his head..covered in body paint!!!!!

I had to look again and again before  I was finally able to  see this for what it really is.

Expectations

looking forward to…anticipation a looking for as due, proper, or necessary thing looked forward to…a reason or warrant for looking forward to something;…prospect for the future, as of advancement or prosperity…the probability of the occurrence, duration, etc. of something

We all have expectations….of life….of our friends and family….of events….and ourselves……..we have expectations of zillions of things.

Many of those we are not even conscious of…take for example….a voice on the radio….. I can listen to that voice for a long time without much thought about the person ….until one day … I  when I saw  a photo of that …VOICE/person… I was surprised with what I saw…I don/t know what I had expected… however…what I saw did not seem to fit… I actually was impressed with what I saw..

So that goes to show that our expectations can not only disappoint us….but in some cases…far excede our expectations….What made me think about this subject was this …my blog.  Upon developing it my thoughts were….hmm…not exactly sure what to write….and if I do…who will even want to read it?

To my surprise….it now has over 31,000 hits…and I have to say…I am quite amazed about that….and on top of that….people actually took the time to comment….I did take a break from writing….but with the winter months rushing in…and the snow on it’s way….and seeing how many hits I have gotten….I am motivated….I am in a writing mood once again.

How about you….have you experienced any….”GREAT EXPECTATIONS ” lately???

The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.
Michelangelo

frag·ile

easily broken, shattered, or damaged; delicate; brittle; frail: a fragile ceramic container; a very fragile alliance.
vulnerably delicate, as in appearance: She has a fragile beauty.
lacking in substance or force; flimsy: a fragile excuse.

Have you ever thought about fragility…and fragile  things… like a snowflake or china bowl or maybe that  glass tea pot???…What about people??…..Have you ever met someone who seemed to be in a fragile state….or maybe it was you….have you ever  felt fragile???

Is it   true……Do others really mold our dreams and hold our hopes in their hands??….If that is true…others are vital to our lives……and if so…how carefully do we handle our relationship with them?.Is it with care… in the same way we handle  that rose bud about to open…or the fragile china bowl?….It is so easy to take for granted those closest to us….we are all guilty of that at times…..Imagine the centre of this little plate being you/me…..and all the buttons around us being family, friends and others…..by being careful with each other we are able to keep a strong connection…we are able to continue to touch each other’s hearts and be the strongest possible….

Life…it can get busy and there are times when we can no longer see the forest for the trees…..

here is a thought..

.I heard this many years ago and always thought it was good to remember every once in a while…so I will share it with you.

Rocks in the Jar

A Philosophy professor one day he picked up a large empty jar and proceeded to fill it with small rocks. He then asked his students if the jar was full? They unanimously agreed that the jar was full.

So professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks. He then asked his students again if the jar was full. Again, they unanimously agreed that the jar was full.

Then the professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

“Now,” the professor said, “I want you to recognize that this is your life. The rocks are the important things: your family, your partner, your friends, your health, your children, and things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else. If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.”

Origin Unknown

How are your rocks keeping these days???

Creativity….So… how much creativity would you say is in your life??

Do you find things?? ….do you do anything with them once they are yours…or… do you just collect them …for the fun of it….or… to admire them… or …have you…will you …or…do you ever make anything with those items you love to gather?

I am a gather-er…I love collecting, be it… buttons or fabric or yarn or rocks or feet for my sewing machine…or even beads…….I find and gather… way too much…. my husband would say….but what about his 6 bikes and his ga-zillion tools???

If you are like me you
go through stages….collecting….using my collection….collecting again…and using more of my collection…I have as much fun finding items to collect as I do using them to CREATE something…In my younger…less affluent years….I was very creative…at least I think so…I didn’t collect however I used items around me creatively….like a butter knife as a screwdriver ..as I didn’t own one….and then there were the items I used to hammer those nails into the wall…and the tape measure I didn’t have so  used a string or whatever I had around to measure.

For the most part I have stopped being creative in that way….however….last week…instead of getting the nice step-ladder we have to get some thing up high…I grabbed the stool….and before I knew it… I was laying on my side…on the kitchen floor….It might have been ok except…it was slate on top of concrete…Luckil y I didn/t break anything…just a few bruises and a vow….never to climb on a stool again. …I think I have to relook my my creative endeavors for sure

I think it is time to go back to creating with my collections only….and not with household items.

till next time…let yourself free and create.

  Have a wonderful Easter Weekend!!

Is it true that life will only demand  from you…the strength you possess???
How interesting to think about…Does that mean that life…in some cosmic way…knows what to throw at each of us… according to our strength???….or… does it mean that no matter what life asks of you…no matter how difficult it might be….you do have the strength to handle it???
Is it possible that we all have the resiliency and strength to rise to the occasion…any occasion… if required???… Can it be that we have absolutely no idea of our strength…until the day/s come that it is needed???…Do you think it is possible to surprise…even ourselves…of the strength we all have???
I remember talking to my brother after being diagnosed with cancer. We are a family of four siblings…he being the youngest….and I remember his words to me…in all kindness he said….” Out of the four of us…if anyone were to receive such news…it’s a good thing it is you as …you are the strongest”.  My immediate thought was…well…if that is true…I sure wish I weren’t so strong…and… then was  is my doctor…in asking him how difficult was the next year going to be?…and he said…”Well, how strong are you?…I must admit…I wasn’t really sure!!!
It is worth remembering that the time of greatest gain in terms of wisdom and inner strength is often that of greatest difficulty
So if going through times of great difficulty…provides wisdom and inner strength…does that mean those who have to deal with lots of difficulty are wiser and stronger than others???…
So my question  is….I wonder how strong/resilient I really am…what about you?… Do you think we really know our own strength..our ability to be resilient?…Is it only by adversity that we find out…what we are capable of…how well we are  able to rise to each occasion as it appears???
If it is true  that If  life demands from us the strength we possess…wouldn’t it hold true that  …we have the strength to handle ANY and ALL the demands we that come our way???…That is very comforting in a strange way…don’t you agree??

You have probably heard the phrase..Seize the day….however…Can you think of a moment of happiness …that took you by surprise???….A  moment of surprise that you can actually say…seized you???

Tonight I had exactly a moment like that…I was surprised…over come….seized by the moment!!!  Our book club meeting was at my home this evening…The Happiness Project was the book we talked about…and in that chat I had mentioned that…something I would love to do is… to fly a kite!…The evening carried on…good wine…great food..and a few hours later…once the evening was just about over… and everyone began  packing up…one friend said she had a little something for me…Hmm…this was strange…and very interesting…why only for me I wondered…what ever could it be???

She ran out to her car….and…a few minutes later she returned to the  house with a bag in hand….She told us said she had done some house cleaning…and…had a few items in her car to bring to the thrift shop…however…she decided  this one item would be best if  given to me…We were all still wondering…what might it be…and then she told us…

A kite….It was a kite…she was giving me a KITE!!!

Now…is that synchronicity…serendipity…coincidence…karma…or what????…

I think we all were in awe of the event for a moment…and  I…I was so thrilled that …without even thinking …I gave her a big hug…and then we all laughed…Yes I was seized by that moment…how could I not have been????…Here we were …talking about happiness…and my evening ended with me surprised and thoroughly taken/seized by an unexpected  moment of happiness!!

So what about you???…any such moments of late??…Have you ever been the person to give  such a moment to someone else???… …Have you been the receiver of such a moment of surprise???

That has me wondering if…Is it possible for each and every one of us ….to make such moments occur…or…are such moments completely out of our hands???…Do we each have the capacity to be able to make happy moments for others???

Once the weather cooperates…you will find me out in a field….flying my newly acquired, gently used, kite!!!

Thanks to (V)…for providing us all with a moment of happiness.

Quick post today….just want to thank you all for stopping in for a visit and commenting on my posts. I would have         to spend days responding to each one individually… so…I decided to say thank you this way. My blog is now over one year old and I will continue to post new and interesting information and photos.

Thanks a bunch!!!!

I learned a new word this week…..

I was reading about phobias yesterday and  I found  there are people who are afraid of books…they have  what is called…Bibliophobia.I have heard of many phobias in my life…but this was something new…the fear of books!!!

So what exactly is A phobia?…It  is an irrational, intense and persistent fear of certain situations, activities, things, animals, or people. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive and unreasonable desire to avoid the feared stimulus.

http://phobias.about.com/od/phobiaslist/a/bibliophobia.htm

I suppose we all have a fear/s of some kind…but would our fears be considered … phobias???….So… of course that got me  to thinking…what fears do I have ?? and are any of them a   phobia???…Is there something that I fear intensely…irrationally…and persistantlyl???…Hmmm

Well…I do fear loosing my calendar…my life line that tells me  where  I have to be when….and then there are my glasses…however…that is not really a problem cause…. I always have contact lenses if they are lost…and how about my keys….that has scared me once or twice……

OH..OH…I’ve got it!!!…candles and fire …I love them outside ...but when they are burning inside…especially when my husband is away…I get a bit worried about fire…I have even been known  to blow out a candle or two at a friend’s home …usually in their bathroom as it bothered me a bit…Also…I   have a good supply of battery operated flames to put in containers….However…I will  admit…I do love the real thing sometimes …and I have just begun lighting up a candle at suppertime once in a while…and actually enjoying it.

So…is it a phobia???…I don’t think so…it is not a real intense fear…In fact…I actually never thought about it much….until I began volunteering at the local fire department …I was their Education Officer for three years…so… I wouldn’t call it a phobia…just a healthy respect and knowledge of  fire.

But  just imagine ….a fear of books…think of all the problems such a phobia could cause a person…imagine all the information and interesting stories that person would miss in their life…I suppose a library would not be a favorite place of theirs…and what about friends…would they only visit homes  of friends …that did not display books???…I suppose bibliophobia could be very debilitating  in ones daily life.

I just had a thought…I wonder if a Kindle or an E Book would cause a person with bibliophobia the same problems

…or not??

Ok now…time to relax …

When I first read this quote……it reminded me of the old song….Love the one you’re with….then…without warning… all of a sudden the quote….necessity is the mother of invention…popped into my my head.

Do what you can …with what you have... .has long been my mantra…even my husband will attest to that…It drives him crazy when he sees me doing just that!!! ..Who needs to go find the  jar opener when you have a spoon right in front of you?…or… How about the  lowly little butter knife… that can be easily transformed into a screw driver when required…I remember how my mom would transform a simple white tissue and a hair pin…into a hat for me to wear in church… on days that I forgot my Sunday bonnet…

For centuries …mankind has been doing what they can with what they have …If you don’t own a jar opener …and you need to get it opened…you will find a way….you will figure it out…Isn’t that kind of thinking….that  separates us from the other species???

I thought about this as I watched the news today…as I looked at the footage of the thousands of Japanese who have lost their homes…and everything they owned…people who are most likely…finding out how inventive they really can be….at a time when they have no choice but …to do what they can…with what they have…where they now are.

I think back to the years when I didn’t own a screw driver…and then I think about now…Today …I have access to a multitude of them…red, yellow and black handled…straight, phillips and square headed ones…Is my life better or is it just different?…All I can say is that…now…I spend more time in trying to find…the correct  screwdriver for the job…I will admit that my butter knives are in much better shape these days… and that screw heads no longer get chewed up…which seems to make my husband much happier.

It seems the less a person owns…the more creative they must be…with what they have...out of necessity most likely…So that makes me wonder about people who have lots?…The people with the jar openers and the multiple head screw drivers??…How creative do they have to be?…I wonder about me…am I less creative now…or just ….creative in different ways?..hmmm…something to ponder???

So yes… I will continue to….do what I can with what I have...The only difference is that…these days…I happen to …have more .

And now….here are a few pics of … doing what you can, with what you have..where you are…..

Sometimes you just have to do…what you have to do !!!

As I was reading the weekend paper this morning…and after I finished it…there were two things that …for some reason…remained in my thoughts.

Number One..There were  many articles about Charlie Sheen and his antics…his being fired from Two and a half Men…and yammerings about his lifestyle… I must admit…I love Two and a Half Men…and part of the reason it that it always makes me laugh…and…because I like the idea of a character playing himself…which I believe Charlie does…and that I find…so refreshing in some strange way.

Number Two…Luck…I noticed and remembered someone saying  something about luck in an article…it read…

“You have to go out and make your own luck.”

Now that got me thinking all about luck…the dictionary states it like this…. The chance happening of fortunate or adverse events; fortune.. Good fortune or prosperity; success… one’s personal fate or lot.

So now I am wondering about luck…Can a person make their own luck??…or is a person destined …to have …or… not have…luck!!!…If it is possible to make our own luck….and if we only knew how…we could all be lucky…right???…Or…are we all… lucky at times in our lives…however…we just don’t see it…Could it be …if we looked at life differently…we would realize…we ALL have luck in our lives??

It seems that we all know people who are luckier than others…and then there are…the others who never seem to get a brake…Are their lives really much different…or…could it be …they deal with  their lives differently???

For instance…two different people… fall down a staircase…As they both lay at the bottom of the stairs with a broken leg…one person looks up and thinks …how lucky that only one leg hurts…it could have been worse…the second person looks up and thinks…#$#%##$#…why do these things happen to me !!!#$#$#…Same event…different ways to look at it…one feels lucky..the other not!!!…could that be the difference between being lucky and unlucky??… Does a person’s reaction to their life…cause them to not only feel lucky or not…but also to look lucky or unlucky to outsiders???

Doesn’t that make you wonder …how do people see you???….Are you lucky…or not???…

How much does ….fate and chance….really have to do with the luck in your life??
