This is my post for tomorrow…Monday

I found a site the other day…that was devoted completely to laughing…It was a fun few moments I had and although I did not laugh out loud…I did have a few inner tee-hees to myself…

So today I would like to first…tell you a few facts about laughing…Have you ever wondered how often in a day you have laughed???…Have you ever how often you have caused someone to laugh???…Have you ever realized that you don’t laugh as much as you did when you were young????….

It seems there have been a few studies about laughter…and they have found …

  1. a child laughs 200 times per day, while adults only laugh about 15 times

When you laugh…you are…..

  1.  lowering your blood pressure, you’re reducing your pain levels, you’re even helping your cholesterol
  2. You’re getting oxygen into all the cells in your body, which is something we need for energy and vitality
  3. You’re changing your brain chemistry, which causes the brain to produce a variety of chemicals that                                           naturally make you feel better and also stops producing the chemicals that make you feel anxious and tense
  4. whether your giggles are spontaneous or forced, and the benefits are the same

Studies suggest ….adults should try to regain the lost joy of childhood by becoming more playful and humorous.

I also found out that there are laugh groups or clubs with  the sole purpose….to laugh!..Just to sit around together and laugh!!

So this all got me wondering…Why don’t we laugh more often???….Is it because we don’t think to???….Is it because we tend to more often get upset or stressed about things???…Has our perspective become so…that we just don’t see the humor in lots of things any more???

Here’s a thought….next time the glass of milk spills…rather than get mad or upset…why not laugh???…The damage is already done…It will have to be cleaned up no matter how you feel about it…so why do we compound the event by getting angry???…Why not just have a good laugh as we wipe up the mess????…Is it possible to just decide to be a happy person???…Is it possible to begin to laugh each time we find ourselves about to get upset???…Can we make ourselves laugh more often in a day???…Is that within our power???

There are so many different types of laughter…the belly laugh…the double over laughing, laugh…the unstoppable giggle…the little tee hee…and the inner silent laugh…there is the loud HO HO HO…and the strange funny infectious laugh… the uncontrollable laugh when  being tickled…and the laughing that makes you almost pee in your pants…Someone can cause you to laugh…or something can as well…You can choose to be funny and elicit a laugh in someone else…You can laugh because it is contagious and at times you may have no idea what caused it.

As for me…my blog sure helps me smile and laugh  more often…Each time I find an interesting picture to share…I giggle inside…the more I find the more I want to keep looking…All the children I share Sam with…they  keep making me laughing…and one of the reasons I love my quilting group on Wednesdays is…they always make me laugh…Do you know what makes you laugh???…And did you know that animals laugh as well???…

It’s more than just a matter of laughing. If you can see things out of whack, then you can see

how things can be in whack.   Dr. Seuss

Now, if I could find just one thing everyday to laugh at ..that would be good……I suppose…if I wanted to ….I could laugh everyday  …I could be my own laughing club…and each night before I go to bed I could just think about something from the day and have a little Tee  Hee  Hee before I close my eyes and drift off!!!

I hope today I have given you something that will help you  laugh..  smile…or at least … have a quiet inner tee hee.

There are many days…I wonder a  lot.

Every  once in a while….I wish I did not.

Like ….If you were a turtle … and two feet became  wheels….

How well would that work….how strange would it feel ???

Or….If your inline skates… became two furry bunnies

Your friends would sure laugh…It would be very funny!!

And what about this…Do you think this could be???

A family of  goats who …climb up in a tree???

Or…What if a giraffe grew to be  very fat

Cause he couldn’t stop eating

Now how weird is that????

It’s fun to imagine …. It’s fun to have fun…

What thought can you think of…..If you had to………

just one???

Another odd couple from my collection….

“The Internet is not just one thing, it’s a collection of things – of numerous communications networks that all speak the same digital language.” Jim Clark

Before I begin…I have to tell you….yesterday I received my copy of Whispers on the Wind…with my poem…Infinite Calm in it. Another writing endeavor…finished. Very cool to see my poem in a published book!!!

The internet is a wonderful concept…a concept that could be seen, way before it’s time in the old sci-fi movies. And now there are programs such as SKYPE….I remember seeing that occur many decades ago as well in movies and TV….remember the talking  picture phone!!!

I don’t think about it too much except at times like this….when I will not have internet access for over a week!  I am going to feel so unconnected. Yes, sorry to say you will not hear from me for a bit…but I can assure you that when I return there will be more news on the book publishing, more weird hats for me to share and more weird things in Sam’s collection as well.

Words… my dear friend Susan passed a book on to me…a book about words.  I am hoping there will be some interesting info. in it that I can share with all of you when I am back on the internet later this month.

So…until then…I am going to miss my daily posting. I may actually write one or two posts  on paper with a pen!!!…yes…paper…until I have internet access once again. How novel is that?  Oh how Funny…….novel…book…Sam

Speaking of novel…funny….here is more of my latest collection….

So…until my return in mid February….be good…be healthy…be kind.

This week’s word……….CLY…to seize or steal

Perception…it is the Recognition and interpretation of sensory stimuli.  Simple…right?  We  see, hear, taste, smell, and touch a zillion times each day and that helps us to uderstand the world around us. So I got to wondering about perceptions…how they affects us , and why then with all that stimuli… it so easy to have misperceptions?

Let’s take for example…this picture of a pretty, young girl with lots of flowing hair……Now..let’s  take that picuture and turn it around…we have…

a picture of an ugly old woman with short hair and a large nose.

What has changed? The information is still all there…however…the position of it is different…the information is presented in a different way…and then….so did our perception of it… and we saw something totally different. Interesting…..

But….Isn’t  life  just  like that?  How we see, feel, touch, hear and taste everything…. affects what we think and how we act. And shouldn’t we always keep in mind that there could very well be a different way of seeing things ? Is there a possibility that what you see today will look different tomorrow? Is there a possibility that not only will it look different, but better?

That makes one wonder…how effective are we ….really… in living our lives ?  How conscious are we from moment to moment and could we be living  differently?  How can a person be  more aware…conscious? And if we could…why aren’t we?

Today,…for me,….it is all about my book cover. Not a very huge dilemma in the scheme of it all, really.  I was fortunate to receive added information from the illustrator, and I was able to step back and look at it very differently, giving me the opportunity to see it from some one else’s perspective. It allowed me to understand the situation better and become more flexible and compromise on little items I thought were important.

Have you been in a situation with someone or something and it all seemed to be at a standstill?  Have you ever considered that maybe you don’t have all the information…or are looking at it all wrong?  Have you ever thought to look at it differently? …or have you, just as I did with my book cover….allowed your emotions and stubbornness to cloud other possibilities?

Here is a picture for you to keep in mind about perception….ten blind man , an elephant and… ten different perspectives of  it. It’s a snake, a tree trunk, it’s sharp, it’s soft, it is smooth…and so on.  Not one person’s perception is wrong…but not having all the info…not one of them is right either!!!

How effectively are you perceiving your world today?

More shoes of course….

Had my first ski of the year yesterday. It was bitterly cold so I had to make it a short one…which was a good idea as today I woke up with no residual muscle aches. Today is even colder….  minus 25 degrees cel…-12 degrees far..  now that is cold!

Did you know that today is Kakizome meaning ……”first writing” of the year. In Japan, people celebrate this day by writing a favorite poem or proverb with the traditional oriental ink brushes.

Kakizome….what an interesting concept…I think I will celebrate the day by writing a favorite poem here on my blog. It may not be in traditional oriental ink brushes….but I will just consider my keyboard to be my brush.

Following is a favorite poem of mine. My mother always loved daffodils and after she passed away, her favorite poem became mine as well……

by William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced, but they
Outdid the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company.
I gazed-and gazed-but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought;
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

This poem always makes me think of my mom and warmer days.
Do you have a favorite poem or phrase. I would love to hear it and then you too can celebrate Kakizome!

How will you be spending the last day of this year

and what will you do to make the start of 2010 a good one?

What ever  you choose to do with this special time…

make it memorable.

I think I will start  this new year by writing the beginnings of  a new Sam adventure.

Happy New Year to All…from our home to yours.

Check out my POEM page. I wrote this one after my sister visited me from New York this summer. Finally finished it today.

Today a friend was talking to all of us around a dining table and used the word, precipitous. I thought about it for a mini second, then, as I had no idea what the meaning was I asked.  Before he could say a word I stopped him short and asked another person at the table if they knew what the word meant. I was interested to know if it was only…I…whose vocabulary was full of smaller more simpler words. This other friend  thought and thought and as not to keep her on the hot seat, I turned back to the person who used it …for the meaning.  This was cause for others at the table to share their LARGE words, of course..none of which I knew or had even ever heard in all my years.  Surely I was not the only one in the dark…but no one else showed it. Is my vocabulary that limited? I wondered. But then it came to me why. My reasoning? Preschool children… my career had me in the company of little tykes for over 25 years and I had to work hard to keep my vocabulary at their level.  Oh well, sounds like a good reason to me!  As I did not write down any of the other BIG WORDS  down, I could only remember this one. So, if you are looking for a word of the day, here you are……

 pre·cip·i·tous (pr-sp-ts)

1. Resembling a precipice; extremely steep. See Synonyms at steep1.
2. Having several precipices: a precipitous bluff.
3. Usage Problem Extremely rapid, hasty, or abrupt; precipitate
