Books are a uniquely portable magic….Stephen King

That’s the thing with magic. You’ve got to know it’s still here, all around us, or it just stays invisible for you          Charles de Lint

What exactly IS magic anyway?   You could ask Sam…he knows.

The art that purports to control or forecast natural events, effects, or forces by invoking the supernatural...                                                     The practice of using charms, spells, or rituals to attempt to produce supernatural effects or control events in nature....The exercise of sleight of hand or conjuring for entertainment…   A mysterious quality of enchantment…Possessing distinctive qualities that produce unaccountable or baffling effects. the art that, by use of spells, supposedly invokes supernatural powers to influence events; sorcery…the practice of this art     the practice of illusory tricks to entertain other people; conjuring…  any mysterious or extraordinary quality or power …    possessing or considered to have mysterious powers a magic wand   wonderful; marvellous; exciting… to transform or produce by or as if by magic… to cause to disappear by or as if… by magic.

I remember when I was very young…and my mom would read books to me…mostly fairy tales about ogres, dancing shoes, wicked witches and trolls, and it seems there was magic in everyone one of them. I loved those stories and still do till this day.  I used to think about owning a magic wand …and I never once questioned  how it worked…it  just did…and that was good enough for me.  I remember the 7 dwarfs and the big bad wolf…I remember Hansel and Gretel and the witch that ate children…and the wicked step mother but never once thought of them as scary or upsetting. Why is that???

a glove phone...unimaginable??? Not to someone.

Each story is full of magic…if you wish to see/believe it ?…There always seemed to be some form of magic occurring be it magic spells, magic wands, magical serendipity, magical transformations, magical occurances….that allow a child to dream past the realm of reality???  As adults we are often no  longer able to allow ourselves to dream…to consider magic?   Have we become  unable to imagine the unimaginable?

There are times when , as adults  ..take for example….readin/watching  Harry Potter…  instead of  wishing you could be on that wonderful  flying broom…you instead  think….how silly, brooms don’t fly.  Well of course brooms don’t fly….but just imagine if they could!!!  Now that is magic.  Or shoes with wings?  I know that some of you immediately began to consider the physics of this idea and how it is an impossible idea…others may have thought…wings would work better is they were on a person’s back…and still others would be thinking…how cool…!!!

Do you believe in magic…the possibility  of impossibilities…?
